My wife Jenny and I have been in Hawaii for the last two weeks and boy are my arms tired. That makes no sense. We haven't had a vacation together without family since we got together way back in the 90's so we thought it was about time we did something about that. Having not really worked at all this year because of the writers and then the actors, not to mention my 'grom' status in the union helped to factor into this lack of work. We weren't doing so bad on the funds so we decided to take a trip that would coincide with my 40th birthday. We chose to head out to the Big Island of Hawaii, and not to the popular side, Kailua Kona, but to the east side of the island in Puna, the last frontier as it's called here.
The photo above is of our plane coming into Honalulu Hawaii and I used this photo because the photos of Hilo Hawaii, where we eventually landed, were dark and covered with clouds. You see, this is the rainy season on the eastern side of The Big Island and I can honestly say it rains a lot. The place we are staying just outside Hilo, Hawaii is called Hangin' Loose and that is exactly what we wanted. A naturist retreat, we don't have to wear anything at all while on the property. It is beautiful here, lush like any rain forest you can conjure up in your pretty little head. Palms, banana, breadfruit, starfruit and ferns everywhere. It is simply put, the most beautiful place I have ever been. And I've been places. It is so amazing here, I am planning to buy property here next year and work my ass off to build a house and make a home here. I will still be working in Los Angeles, but my future home will be right here on the island of Hawaii.
I will write more about it in the coming days, more specifically about the way of life here, the critters and foliage, and how I plan on making this work, which honestly I still haven't figured out! It's not the Hawaii you see in all the brochures, but it's the Hawaii, and the lifestyle, I dream about.
